Alice Wugh, the vendor at the centre of the ‘Crab Circle’ controversy, denies being a nasty person.

Despite a video circulating on social media of her squatting and wiping herself after defecating, Alice Wugh would like the public to know that she is not nasty, and does not regularly practise relieving herself at her stall where she cooks crabs and serves to the public.

The 56-year-old mother of eight said she had diarrhoea which caused her to lose control over her bowel movements.

"I'm a clean, clean girl and I don't like nastiness, not even fly mi nuh like si. A true it come dung pan mi ... tru mi drink the beer and mi stomach did a hurt mi, and when time mi drink the beer it come dung pan mi. Mi just wipe and mi guh dung a mi niece guh bathe," said Wugh. As a result of the video, health officials inspected the popular 'Crab Circle' food spot on Wednesday. Having found several breaches, including lack of appropriate credentials for vendors and issues with water for food preparation, the authorities closed the spot on Thursday. Wugh said that despite the backlash, she still has loyal customers who support her. She also questioned why the vendor who took the video did so.

Prior to that incident, the crab vendor said that she normally used her niece's bathroom in Fletchers Land, which is a short distance from Heroes Circle. But in the fateful incident, which took place last Friday, September 29, she said she had no other choice but to relieve herself where she stood.

"Mi couldn't move, a stuck. Mi couldn't move" said Wugh as she recounted her experience. Wugh also said that she has been placed in a difficult and unfair situation because no bathrooms were originally provided nearby for vendors to use.

"There is no restroom when wi wah pee -pee. Sometimes mi cah reach dung a mi family and mi afi run guh ova di bush," Wugh said. She added that when the stall was initially built, she believed that bathrooms would have been provided for vendors but that was not the case.

"Mi check seh dem aguh build restroom some weh up yah suh or rent some bathroom and mek wi pay people fi come clean," Wugh said.

Wugh also added that she is not bothered by the situation because although she has been selling crabs for more years than she can count, she knows God will provide for her and her children.

Nonetheless, she said that she is willing to work with the authorities and take all necessary steps for the stalls to reopen.
