October 17, 2023

The police in Clarendon are probing the death of 43-year-old farmer George Jones, who was allegedly chopped to death by his brother who is believed to be mentally ill.

According to the Chapelton police, about 6:30 p.m. on Monday, the men were at their home in the Johnnies Hill community when a dispute developed.

It is alleged that at some point in the argument, the suspect used a machete to inflict several chop wounds to his brother's head and upper back.

The police further report that the following morning, the suspect told a neighbour that he had killed his brother, and needed assistance to dig a hole and bury the body.

The neighbour reportedly called the police.

On their arrival, Jones' body was seen face down in a pool of blood next to a chicken coop in the backyard. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
