Woman claims ex-boyfriend new girl’s bite gave her infection

October 20, 2023

A Corporate Area woman claimed she has had to shell out more than $400,000 to treat a bone-eating bacteria and other infections after she was bitten on the finger by her ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend.

The startling revelation was made in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday.

The complainant, who stood in court wearing an arm brace, said doctors informed her that E.coli and other bone-eating bacteria were detected in the wound, which she alleged was caused by the bite.

"I did a surgery last week Thursday to contain the bacteria and they had to inject antibiotics in the finger," the complainant told Senior Parish Judge Lori-Anne Cole-Montaque. She said the procedure cost $450,000.

The woman who allegedly inflicted the injury has not been charged. However, Andre Marriot, with whom the complainant had a 15-year relationship, is before the court on assault charges.

Prosecutors alleged that on August 3, the complainant was talking to a mechanic when Marriot and his girlfriend, the alleged biter, walked by. An argument developed between Marriot and the complainant about payment for repairs for the vehicle. It is further alleged that Marriot slapped her all over her body, causing bruising and swelling.

However, Marriot contends that he did not touch the complainant.

"She stay on her rooftop and throw stones at me to hit me in my elbow. Me couldn't use my hand for two weeks," he related.

But the complainant maintained that she was attacked by Marriot and his girlfriend. Her statement, which she gave to the police was read in court. She alleged that her ex-boyfriend's girlfriend bit her finger during the alleged attack.

"When I lost my balance and fell, my finger was in [the girlfriend's name] mouth and I had to use my left leg to kick her, but the damage was already done," the complainant's statement read.

Cole-Montaque was left puzzled after the complainant informed her that the woman who bit her was not charged.

"The police said I should not press charges against her," the complainant said.

"The police should charge everyone involved and put them before the court, let the court determine the matter," the judge reasoned.

The matter was adjourned until January 11, 2024 for the medical certificate to be placed on the file as well as the girlfriend to be charged.

Marriot was made the subject of a fingerprint order.
