Cops seize illegal firearms, ammunition

Police in two divisions took three firearms and several rounds of ammunition of the streets on the weekend.

On Saturday, a team of officers assigned to the Kingston Western Police Division charged 21-year-old Marko Frazer, a catering assistant of Blunt Street, Kingston 14, with possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition during an operation on Blunt Street.

Reports are that about 11:10 p.m., lawmen were in the area when they responded to a dispute, involving Frazer and his child's mother. During the operation the premises that was occupied by Frazer was searched and one Taurus 9mm pistol with a magazine containing 10 9mm rounds of ammunition was found. Frazer was subsequently taken into custody. He was charged following an interview in the presence of his attorney.

Investigations are now also under way in Denham Town, Kingston, following the seizure of a handgun and several rounds of ammunition on Sunlight Street, Kingston 13, also on Saturday. Reports are that about 11:55 a.m., a police team conducted an operation at a premises in the community. During a search of the location, a Beretta PX4 Storm pistol fitted with a magazine containing five 9mm rounds of ammunition was found hidden near a perimeter fence. Detectives are encouraging persons who may have information that can assist the police to contact the Denham Town Criminal Investigations Branch at 876-948-6443, Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest police station.

On Sunday, the Portland police seized one 12-gauge shotgun along with seven 12 gauge cartridges during an operation in Halls Avenue, Port Antonio. Reports are that about 11:40 a.m., lawmen were in the area when an abandoned building was searched. During the search, one Benelli Nova 12-gauge shotgun and seven rounds of ammunition were seized. No one was arrested in relation to this seizure.
