Everald Warmington resigns
Fire-brand politician Everald Warmington has resigned from the Cabinet of Prime Minister Andrew Holness following controversial comments he made during the closing segments of the local government elections.
"I'm the minister of works, I'm the member of parliament, no PNP councillor going spend my money," Warmington told JLP supporters following Monday's elections.
At the same time, Warmington said the JLP's losing candidate, Lloyd Grant "might not be councillor but he will spend every dime."
In a statement to the press, Prime Minister Andrew Holness says he met with Warmington today and at the end of the meeting he received Warmington's resignation.
"I thanked him for his service in that capacity and Minister Warmington expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve," Holness says.
Warmington on Wednesday issued a statement saying that his comments have been "misunderstood".
He also said he was withdrawing the statements and apologised to Jamaicans.
