Psychiatric evaluation for accused in stabbing case

March 25, 2024

A Hanover man, charged with stabbing a vendor during an altercation in Montego Bay on New Year's Eve, is to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before his next scheduled court appearance in the St James Parish Court on May 13.

On Thursday, St James Parish Judge Sasha-Marie Ashley set the court date for Enoch Green, who is charged with unlawful wounding. Green was not present in court.

The court was told that Green, who is currently being held in custody in Kingston, is slated to undergo an appointed session of psychiatric treatment. That appointment is in keeping with a previous order that was made when Green last came to court on January 24. On that court date, it was disclosed that Green had been receiving medication at the Cornwall Regional Hospital and the Granville Health Centre. At that time, Judge Ashley ordered that contact should be made with Green's doctor regarding possible adjustments to his medication.

According to the allegations, the complainant was preparing food for his vending business along St James Street when Green approached him and stabbed him in the neck and chest. The complainant was taken to hospital for treatment while Green was arrested and charged. It is understood that the complainant did not know Green prior to that confrontation.

Green has admitted that he has a court matter of a similar nature in Hanover, while claiming that the medication given to him was causing him to move like a robot.
