St Bess farmer gets continuation date in cocaine case

March 28, 2024

A St Elizabeth farmer who was arrested in Bogue Village in Montego Bay, St James after cocaine was allegedly found in his vehicle, was given an April 12 continuation when he appeared in the St James parish court on Tuesday.

Leo Daley, 41, of Kilmarnock, was charged with possession of and conspiracy to traffic 5.8 kilogrammes of cocaine. He was also charged with illegal possession of ammunition. Attorney-at-law Michael Hemmings, who represented Daley on behalf of his designated lawyer, Martyn Thomas, asked for the specific continuation date to allow time for a particular witness in the case to be interviewed. After discussions with the various parties to the case, Parish Judge Sasha-Marie Ashley set the continuation.

According to the allegations, on September 8, 2021, a police team, acting on information, went to Bogue Village on the outskirts of Montego Bay, where they saw a grey Honda motor car, which was being driven by Daley. The vehicle was searched, and five packages with a white powdery substance resembling cocaine, along with a .6mm cartridge, were found. Under caution, Daley reportedly told a police officer, "Miss, a one kilogramme mi have inna di car, and mi sey a drugs." He was subsequently arrested and charged.
