Policeman injured in brawl

A St James man, who reportedly injured a policeman when he engaged him and one of his colleagues in a fist fight, has been ordered to stand trial in the St James Parish Court.

Shaquille Lincoln, who is charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, was remanded in custody when he appeared before presiding Parish Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton on Thursday. The court was told that on September 1, 2023, the police were sent to Strand Street, in Montego Bay, where they saw Lincoln behaving in a disorderly manner. The police officers apprehended him and were escorting him to the Barnett Street Police Station when he attacked them and tried to escape. When the cops tried to hold him, he began attacking them with punches. One of the officers injured his finger. Lincoln was eventually subdued and later arrested and charged.

When asked by Judge Fairclough-Hylton about what took place, Lincoln said "It wasn't like that, Your Honour, I can explain what happened." He denied resisting arrest, but did not give his version of the incident.

Fairclough-Hylton subsequently set the matter for trial on May 7, at which time it is expected that the injured officer will return from leave. It was also ordered that disclosure of documents should be made to Lincoln's attorney by April 24
