GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – The Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana on Thursday reported the successful recovery of US$5,500 for a passenger.

In a statement, the airport’s security department said the passenger, Unis Cato, reported the missing money upon her arrival on April 18.

It said it promptly reviewed CCTV footage and identified a passenger who had picked up a package that had fallen from Cato.

After sharing its findings with the Guyana Police Force, the passenger was located in Berbice, and following thorough questioning, the police managed to recover the full sum of money, which was then returned to Cato.

Cato expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the airport’s security staff and the Guyana Police Force, particularly CEO Ramesh Ghir and Commander Krishnadat Ramanarine.

Meanwhile, the airport’s board chairman Sanjeev Datadin commended the security team and the Guyana Police Force for their work.

He noted that in 2024, the security department successfully recovered over 260 items for passengers, including suitcases, laptops, mobile phones, jewellery, duty-free items, and travel documents.
