The cop is to return to court on June 11.

Charges have been laid against the police constable who was involved in the 2022 shooting at a Maroon event in Accompong, St Elizabeth.

Charged with murder and five counts of wounding with intent is policeman Lakarie Barrett.

He appeared before the St Elizabeth Parish Court on Wednesday where he was granted $2 million bail.

The policeman is to go back to court on June 11.

The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

At the time of the incident, INDECOM issued a media release stating that the policeman, who was off-duty, was in attendance at an event in the Accompong Town community when he allegedly attempted to intervene in a fight between two men.

INDECOM said investigations revealed that the cop was attacked, during which he discharged his service Glock pistol.

Six persons, four adults and two children, were hit.

One of the adults, identified by the police as Lloyd Davis, later died.
