'Catfish' charged for Waltham Park Road murder

Thirty-seven-year-old Michael Walters, otherwise known as 'Catfish', has been charged for the gunning down of a man along Waltham Park Road, St Andrew in April.

Walters is charged with murder, possession of prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition and conspiracy to murder.

Killed was 24-year-old Shawn Dyer, otherwise called ‘Puddie’, of Maxfield Avenue, St Andrew.

Reports from the Half-Way Tree police are that about 3:30 p.m., Walters, in the company of two accomplices, pounced upon Dyer who was standing along the roadway.

They brandished firearms and opened gunfire at him before escaping on foot in the area.

The police were summoned, and on their arrival, Dyer was seen along the roadway with gunshot wounds to the upper body.

He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation was launched into the murder, and Walters was subsequently taken into custody.

He was charged on Wednesday, July 17 following a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.

Walters is scheduled to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday, July 22.
