Jevaughn Powell advances to Men's 400m
Jevaughn Powell was the lone Jamaican to make it straight into the Men's 400m semi-finals after finishing third in heat six following first-round action at the Stade de France at the Paris Games.
Despite fading in the last 30 metres, Powell held on and clocked a time of 45:12 seconds behind eventual winner Charles Dobson of Great Britain.
National champion Deandre Watkin was seventh and last in heat one following a disappointing 45.97 seconds clocking.
Matthew Hudson Smith of Great Britain won the race in 44.78 seconds.
Sean Bailey's time of 44:68 was good enough for fifth in heat two, which went to Michael Norman of the USA who clocked a season's best 44.10.
Watkin and Bailey will have another chance to make it through to the semi-finals following the repechage.
