Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Youth, Marsha Smith, has resigned as member of parliament (MP) for the St Ann North East constituency with immediate effect.

Smith was elected to represent the constituency of St Ann North East in September 2020.

In a media release on Tuesday, Prime Minister Andrew Holness thanked Smith for her service in representational politics.

The seat is expected to be represented in the next general election by Matthew Samuda, who currently serves as Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation.

He was presented by Holness as the JLP's standard-bearer at an event in the constituency last year November.
