A St James man who reportedly attacked and kicked his sister during a dispute over family land, had his bail extended when he appeared in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday.

Caswell Gillette is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The allegations are that on July 1, at 2:30 p.m., the complainant and one of her brothers were at a shop along Bevin Avenue in Montego Bay when Gillette came in and began arguing with the brother over land that they share. The complainant and the brother left the shop a few moments later, but Gillette approached the complainant and kicked her in her stomach, knocking her to the ground. Gillette then grabbed his sister in her face, resulting in pain and swelling.

"Did you hit your sister, sir?" presiding Parish Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton asked Gillette after the allegations were outlined.

"No," Gillette answered flatly.

"Madam, what do you want to do with your brother?" Judge Fairclough-Hylton asked the complainant.

"My mother has four of us, and all of us are apart from him. He has done too many things, so it is time for him to learn his lesson," the complainant replied.

The court was told that the medical certificate is outstanding from the prosecution's case file. It was also revealed that Gillette has an unrelated court matter set for September 23.

Judge Fairclough-Hylton subsequently extended Gillette's bail to October 2, when his case with his sister will be mentioned, but warned him not to interfere with his relatives.

"I am warning you, you are to make peace with your siblings. You currently have a matter before the court, so if you cause any breach of the peace, it is not going to go well for you, because you will be interfering with a witness," the judge told Gillette, before allowing him to leave.
