Security guards fight over phone
A St James security guard who allegedly hit a co-worker in the head with a curtain rod during a quarrel over a phone had his bail extended when he appeared in the St James Parish Court on Wednesday.
Kemar Gordon is charged with unlawful wounding and malicious destruction of property. The court was told that on August 19, at 6:30 a.m., Gordon and his co-worker were at their barracks in Fairfield district when the men got into an argument over a phone that Gordon claimed was stolen. Gordon, who was not the owner of the phone, accused the complainant of stealing the device with intent to sell it.
According to the allegations, the argument turned physical when Gordon attacked the complainant with a curtain rod, hitting him twice in the head, causing a bleeding wound. Gordon then backed the complainant into a corner and tried to stab him with a knife, at which point other security guards intervened and stopped him. The complainant, who reportedly lost consciousness during the altercation, awoke and tried to make a call on his Samsung Galaxy A04 phone. Gordon then grabbed the complainant's phone, cracking its screen.
The complainant was taken for medical treatment and the police were summoned. Under caution, Gordon reportedly said, "Mi never draw no knife after him, Sir, mi never draw down no bed on him. Mi lick him twice with a mop stick and that's it". He was then arrested and charged.
After the allegations were outlined, the clerk of the court said that the medical certificate is outstanding from the prosecution's case file, and that the complainant is to undergo a brain scan. As a result, presiding Parish Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton set the case for mention on October 2 and extended Gordon's bail to that date.
