Royalton Negril general manager suspended amid strike talks
The general manager of the Royalton Negril hotel has been suspended amid ongoing talks between the management and disgruntled staff who went on strike.
Approximately 200 workers walked off the job on Monday to register their frustration with working conditions. The industry action impacted operations at the property, with visitors complaining about absence services.
The staff returned to work yesterday but remain restive.
A meeting was held this morning involving management, staff and government officials including Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.
The outcome of the discussion was not disclosed.
However, arising from the talks a decision was made to suspend the hotel’s general manager, who took on the job two months ago.
The protest by the Royalton workers has stirred public discussion regarding working conditions in the tourism sector.
