Five illegal guns off the streets
Police in the Corporate Area have made significant firearm seizures in recent days, uncovering five illegal guns and multiple rounds of ammunition during targeted raids and patrols. The seizures were made between December 26 and 29, the Corporate Communications Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force said.
On December 26, Jayce Davis, a 22-year-old man from St Andrew, was charged after a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol and 25 rounds of ammunition were found during an illegal bike show in Barbican, Kingston 8.
Reports are that about 12 a.m., a police team visited the location, where Davis was seen acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion. He was accosted and searched, and the weapon found.
A day later, on December 27, the Admiral Town police discovered a Springfield 9mm pistol during a raid in Kingston 12.
In a separate incident, the Denham Town police seized a Taurus pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition and a substance resembling cocaine during a raid in Trench Town, Kingston 12, on December 28.
Reports from the Denham Town police are that about 9:15 a.m., lawmen acting on information conducted a targeted raid at a premise where a bedroom was searched in the occupant's presence. During the search of the bedroom, a bag containing the weapon and a white, hard substance resembling cocaine was found.
One man was arrested in connection to the find; however, his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
Also on December 28, Kingston Western police found a Mac-11 9mm submachine gun during an operation at the intersection of West Road and Third Street in Kingston.
The latest find took place yesterday when the St Andrew South police recovered a Glock 9mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition on Seaward Drive, Kingston 20.
Reports from the Olympic Gardens police are that about 2 a.m., a team, comprising police and soldiers, which was on foot patrol in the area observed a man acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion. Upon the approach of the team, the man ran. A search was conducted of the area and the weapon was found.
No arrests were made in connection to the find.
