The police have issued a stern warning that the discharge or throwing of squibs, firecrackers, or any other prohibited fireworks in public places is strictly outlawed under the Towns and Communities Act.

"These actions are not only disruptive, but can also cause unnecessary fear, as many members of the public struggle to distinguish between the sound of fireworks and gunfire," the police said.

The lawmen said persons found engaging in such activities are subject to prosecution.

"Past incidents have shown that the misuse of these items has led to property damage, including house fires, posing serious risks to life and safety," the police said.

Under Section 3(n) of the Towns and Communities Act, it is an offence for any person to discharge firearms, create bonfires, or ignite fireworks in public spaces such as streets, lanes, squares, or highways.

Additionally, anyone who throws stones or other objects, flies kites, or engages in disruptive activities that endanger or annoy others can be charged. Those found guilty of these actions could face a fine of up to $1,000.
