Police-military operation targets crime hotspots in St Mary

A major pre-dawn operation is underway in St Mary as law enforcement officers intensifies efforts to eradicate criminality from the parish in 2025 and beyond.

The operation is being concentrated in Baileys Vale and its environs, and according to Acting Superintendent of police for the St Mary division, Anthony Wallace, the operation is aimed at targeting crime hotspots with the focus on not just apprehending wanted individuals, but also high-risk offenders, recovering illegal firearms and ammunition, and also arresting those involved in lottery scamming.

"This initiative is a multi-agency effort involving over 100 officers from the Jamaica Constabulary Force [JCF] and Jamaica Defence Force, "Wallace pointed out.

Additionally the Area 2 Fugitive Apprehension Team, the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), the Canine Specialized Operations, the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) are also participating in the operation.

Wallace emphasised that "this operation is part of our vision to eliminate all criminal activity in St Mary from 2025 onwards. It represents our unwavering commitment to fostering safer communities and restoring public confidence."

He said that residents are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement officers during the operation and that he is urging them to report any suspicious activities to the lawmen.

"The JCF assures the public that this ongoing campaign against criminal elements underscores its dedication to securing the safety and well-being of all citizens,"he concluded.
