Father Abraham! - Man gets 12th child after DNA test
At 55 years old, John* has just discovered that he is a father for the 12th time. He had his last child 26 years ago, or so he thought. But following the intervention of this newspaper's DNA DETECTIVE, he now knows that he is the father of a one-year-old girl.
"Mi never expect this, mi did think seh number 11 would a be mi last, but life is a funny thing," chuckled John, whose eldest child is 33 years old.
The latest addition to his family, a daughter with a woman nearly half his age, came as a complete surprise. He was in a five-month relationship with the child's mother, Amy*. He refused to accept paternity of the child, as he knew she had slept with another man, Larry*, during the window of conception.
"When she tell mi seh she pregnant, mi never think seh a fi mi, cause di girl live har life certain way, and mi did have other woman before har who never get pregnant. Suh how mi get she pregnant?" he questioned, but admitted he never used a condom while having sexual intercourse with Amy.
Having been confirmed to be the father of Amy's child, following DNA testing by Polygenics Consulting, John is somewhat excited about being a dad again.
"As much as mi never want another one, mi done get har, suh mi a guh duh weh mi can fi har," John said.
"Mi nuh ole enuh, but mi nuh young, either," added John, who has four grandchildren, the youngest being just three years old.
John told THE WEEKEND STAR that he has always had a good relationship with his children, and despite not being a rich man, prides himself on being a good father.
"Mi love all mi kids dem. A whole heap a dem, yes, but mi do weh mi can fi all a dem," he said.
John admitted that although being an older parent means he may not have the energy for endless games and playtime, he is committed to giving his daughter a good life.
"Mi may nuh be able to be di most energetic parent, but mi will deh there, and she a guh know har real father," he said, adding that although he hasn't told his 11 other children about their new baby sister, he plans to share the news soon.
"Mi know dem will be shocked, but she done deh yah already," he said.
