Six-year-old girl assaulted by older student
The nation has been rocked by a disturbing case of alleged sexual abuse at a primary school in Kingston, leaving parents and educators in shock.
The horrifying incident reportedly unfolded on March 11, when an 11-year-old boy allegedly dragged a six-year-old girl into an empty classroom after school hours and assaulted her. The traumatic event has sent shockwaves through the community, raising urgent concerns about student safety on school grounds.
Following the terrifying ordeal, the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) launched a full-scale investigation. The young victim has since been placed in the care of the Ministry of Justice's victim services division for urgent counselling and psychological support.
Meanwhile, the older child, below the age of criminal responsibility, has been referred to the Child Guidance Clinic at The University of the West Indies for psychological intervention.
"We are deeply troubled by this incident, as school should be looked at as a safe haven for students, and not one where they should be vulnerable to being sexually abused, especially not by their fellow students," said Laurette Adams-Thomas, CEO of the CPFSA.
