Health Ministry confirms E. coli in some NWC water samples
The Ministry of Health and Wellness is confirming that while some water samples have tested positive for E. coli, there is no need for concern as this is not an unusual occurence.
The Health Ministry is addressing recent conversations over the quality of water supplied by the National Water Commission in the Kingston and St Andrew area.
In a press release, it says, "Occurrences such as these are not unusual, particularly during drought conditions, following pipe breakages, heavy rainfall, or other environmental contamination events."
"In such instances, the Ministry, through its established protocols, initiates an investigation to determine the cause, assess the extent of contamination, and guide the necessary corrective actions," it continued.
Despite the positve test results, the ministry says a Boil Water Advisory is unnecessary.
The Ministry wishes to also clarify that a Boil Water Advisory, a public health precaution issued solely by the Medical Officer of Health, is issued based on specific areas, not parish-wide. With the only exception being.
The Ministry continues to monitor the situation closely and remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.
