Husband and wife arrested, illegal gun found in their home
A St Mary married couple are now behind bars after police recovered an illegal firearm at their home in Orange Field on Tuesday.
Charged with illegal possession of a prohibited weapon and ammunition are Shamar Newby o/c Speng, a 31 year old Landscaper of Orange Field, Castleton P O St Mary, along with his wife, Donesa Anderson- Newby 3St years old, unemployed at Orange field, Castleton P O in the parish.
A police report is suggesting that about 5am, lawmen executed a raid at a two-story dwelling in the Orange Field area.
During the search, a Steyr nine millimetre pistol, along with a magazine and 23 rounds of 9mm ammunition, was found concealed inside a child's knapsack hanging on a wall in the bedroom.
Following the discovery of the handgun, they were taken into custody.
They are being processed at the Castleton Police Station.
Investigations are ongoing and their court date is to be finalized.
"We are urging anyone with information that could assist with this investigations to contact the Port Maria Police at 876-333-9530 or 876-994-4222, "commented Anthony Wallace Head of the St. Mary Police Division.
Wallace pointed out that they remain resolute in their efforts to rid communities and by extension the parish of illegal firearms and to ensure public safety.
