The St James Parish Court has ordered that a man who reportedly attacked and forcibly took his sister from her husband's home should have his case transferred to the Hanover Parish Court.

Presiding Parish Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton made the order on Wednesday in relation to Kevoy Washington, of a Maroon Town address, who is charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The court was told that on March 27, Washington and his mother went to Lethe, Hanover, where his sister resides with her husband. Upon their arrival, they told the complainant that they had come for her, but she refused to go with them. The complainant left the premises and returned a short while later, only to find Washington and their mother were still there. The two reportedly proceeded to force her into their vehicle and beat her before driving her to their home in Maroon Town, where she subsequently jumped a wall and escaped.

A report was later made to the police, and Washington was arrested and charged.

"Madam, do you have any medical conditions from before this incident?" Fairclough-Hylton asked the complainant, after the allegations were outlined.

"She takes drugs, you hear?" Washington spoke up abruptly before his sister could reply, triggering laughter in the courtroom.

"She takes drugs and she is abusing her husband, so that's how come we came for her. Her husband called my mother, and my mother tell me to carry her go down there, so that's how mi get involved," he continued, while insisting he did not harm the complainant. The court was also told that Washington's mother was not before the court as she is currently overseas. It was also disclosed that the medical certificate is currently outstanding.

Fairclough-Hylton subsequently ordered that Washington's case should be transferred to the Hanover Parish Court for hearing on June 19.
