Cops make arrests following ammunition seizure
The police have charged two Kingston men following a seizure of illegal ammunition on Sangster Crescent, Tivoli Gardens, last Saturday.
Charged are 31-year-old Jhamaal Reid, of Chang Avenue, Tivoli Gardens, Kingston 14, and 31-year-old Romar Brown, of Burlington Avenue, Kingston 10. Reports are that personnel assigned to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch were on an operation when a grey Mazda Demio was stopped and searched. Eighty-one rounds of ammunition were found hidden in the back of the front passenger seat. The men have been charged with possession of prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, dealing in prohibited weapon, trafficking in prohibited weapon, and stockpiling prohibited weapon. Their court date is being finalised.
Meanwhile, the Kingston East Criminal Investigation Branch has seized one Mac-11 submachine handgun with a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition following an operation on St Patricks' Road, Rockfort, also on Saturday. Reports from the police are that at 10:15 p.m., lawmen were carrying out investigations in the area, when a premises was searched. During the search, the firearm and ammunition were found.
One man was arrested in relation to the seizure.
