Woman allegedly uses food container to smuggle contrabands into Annotto Bay lock-up
The St Mary police have arrested 43-year-old Tavia Whitely for allegedly attempting to smuggle prohibited substances into the Annotto Bay police lock-up on Wednesday.
Whitely is a businesswoman of Annotto Bay in the parish.
She has since been charged with introducing prohibited articles into a police lock-up and possession of ganja.
The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m., when the accused was delivering food to the prisoners.
A search of the food containers was conducted, which revealed a hidden package containing prohibited items.
The prohibited items include an alcoholic beverage, a vegetable like matter resembling ganja, other smoking paraphernalia, and a battery-operated device.
The accused was denied station bail and is scheduled to appear in the St Mary Parish Court.
Her court date is being finalised.
"The St Mary police remain committed to ensuring the safety of all lock-ups and continue to relentlessly pursue and apprehend offenders who engage in illegal activities," said Anthony Wallace, Superintendent of police for the St Mary Police Division.
