Older women glow with cosmetic surgeries
More and more Jamaican women over the age of 50 are turning to cosmetic surgeries to rejuvenate their appearance and boost their confidence. One of the most sought-after enhancements is the facelift, a procedure that has grown in popularity in recent years.
Dr Jan Hochtritt, a well-known plastic surgeon at Prosurgicare Services Ltd, noted the noticeable shift in how mature women are embracing facial surgery.
"I see more people coming for facelifts, and years ago it was not a thing, but it is a trend now. Over the last two years, we have seen as twice as many. It is getting common and I don't know if social media has anything to do with it, but persons are not hiding about getting their aesthetics surgeries done," Hochtritt said.
A facelift is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to reduce the visible signs of ageing on the face and neck by tightening sagging skin and repositioning underlying tissues. Globally, facelifts have surged in popularity, with many individuals opting for subtle, natural-looking enhancements rather than dramatic changes.
According to Hochtritt, the shift in beauty standards has also led to a more balanced approach to cosmetic enhancements.
"We are trying to move away from fillers as people have been overfilling, but there is more of a mix of a little bit of everything. So you will have some laser [procedures], fillers and Botox. So you do not just do one thing and then you overdo it," he said.
While facelifts are gaining traction among older women, younger Jamaicans are still showing strong interest in body contouring procedures like the Brazilian butt lift (BBL). Once considered a summer-only trend, BBLs are now performed year-round.
"BBLs are a common thing and not only done in the summer any more. Persons from all walks of life are getting them done," Hochtritt shared.
