Brothers in custody after gun find
Two brothers were taken into custody following the seizure of two firearms during a police-military operation in Wheelersfield district, St Thomas, on June 23.
Reports from the Morant Bay police are that at 5:30 a.m., an intelligence-led operation involving members from various units within the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the military, was conducted in the community. During a search of a premises in the area, a .38 revolver and a homemade shotgun were seized. Two men, who were later identified as brothers, were taken into custody; however, their identities are being withheld pending further investigation.
Meanwhile, sleuths assigned to the Kingston West Police Division have charged two men with unauthorised possession of ammunition following an incident at the intersection of Texton and Gem roads, Kingston 5, on June 19. Charged are: 28-year-old Omario Davis, a taxi operator, and 30-year-old Clinton Cherrington, a labourer, both of Septimus Street, Kingston 12.
Reports from the Denham Town police are that at 3:10 p.m., a police team acting on information intercepted a Toyota Probox motor car with Davis and Cherrington aboard. The men were instructed to exit the vehicle, after which a search was carried out in their presence and view. During the search a clear plastic bag containing 10 9mm rounds was found in the glove compartment; both men were taken into custody.
Davis and Cherrington were formally charged for the offence following a question-and-answer session in the presence of their attorney. Their court date is being finalised.
