Traffic restrictions for Liguanea, White Hall avenues starting Friday
Traffic restrictions will be implemented on Friday along Liguanea Avenue and White Hall Avenue in St Andrew to facilitate road repairs, the National Works Agency (NWA) has said.
Both corridors will be reduced to single-lane traffic.
Stephen Shaw, manager of communication and customer services at the NWA, said the work along Liguanea Avenue will be done in four phases over a period of 180 days, and will involve the construction of sidewalks, laying of a new base and an asphaltic concrete surface.
The first phase will target the section of the road between Hope Road and Liguanea Drive. The second phase will address the section from Liguanea Drive to Paddington Terrace. The third phase will involve the area from Paddington Terrace to Dewsbury Drive, while the final phase will see works carried out between Dewsbury Drive and Barbican Road. These works are to be done at a cost of $77 million.
In the meantime, about 100 metres of White Hall Avenue, between Burke Lane and Twelve Road is to be targeted, with restrictions being in effect for a period of three weeks.
The section has been impacted by heavy rainfall, which has caused constant surface erosion. The asphaltic concrete surface is to be replaced with a rigid concrete pavement. The new surface will allow for easier storm water flows and post rainfall maintenance.
Just over $3 million is to be spent on this project.
Shaw noted that both corridors are slated to be improved under separate roadworks projects.
The works along Liguanea Avenue is being done under the multibillion-dollar Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (SPARK) project, while White Hall Avenue is to be rehabilitated through the Maintenance of Secondary Roads Programme.
Motorists and pedestrians are being urged to exercise caution while using the roads during the period of the works and to obey the instructions of flag-persons and posted warning signs.
