Man shot and injured while playing ludo in Portmore

A man was shot and injured by unknown assailants in Westchester, Portmore, this afternoon.

Reports are that about 3:00 p.m., explosions rang out in the Troja Court area, where a group of people were playing ludo. The injured man, who was among them, was rushed to hospital by residents. His condition is not immediately known.

The motive for the attack has not been determined, but residents say they are shaken by the brazenness of the shooter(s).

This incident comes less than 24 hours after a triple shooting in nearby Waterford, where two elderly residents and a teenager were shot and injured during a wake along West Road in Portland.

The Portmore Criminal Investigation Branch is probing both shootings.

The St Catherine South Police Division has recorded 35 murders as of August 9. A 39 per cent decrease compared to the 57 homicides reported for the same period last year.
