Man arrested for arson

The Westmoreland police have charged 34-year-old Sadekie Brown of Grange district, Glenislay, in the parish with arson following an incident in his community on August 15.

Reports from the Whithorn police are that at 7:30 a.m., residents observed smoke coming from an apartment structure which houses several businesses. They made checks and saw Brown fleeing the premises. Shortly after, the building was engulfed in flames. The police and the fire department were alerted and cooling-down operations commenced.

Damages to the building was estimated at more than $4 million. Reports were given to the police, and statements were recorded implicating Brown. Shortly after the incident, Brown was handed over to the police by residents. He was charged on Monday, following a question-and-answer session in the presence of two justices of the peace.

A court date for him is being finalised.
