Binnie wins second international professional squash title

Jamaica and Caribbean men's squash champion Chris Binnie recently won his second

international Professional Squash Association (PSA) title when he beat Jamaica's number two-ranked player Lewis Walters in an all-Jamaica final at the Securian Indian Summer Tournament in Minnesota.

Binnie, who defeated Walters in July to win his sixth All Jamaica title, knew his teammate would be looking for revenge when the two faced off again. The first game was a pitch battle, with Binnie managing to take the early lead 12/10.

The Jamaican and Caribbean number one then consolidated his advantage by winning the second game 11/6.

However, Walters regrouped to pull one back when he won the third game 8/11. The rally sparked an all-out war in the fourth game, but Binnie prevailed, 13/11, to take the title.

"Both of us were pushing hard, so it was a tough final; and although it's always hard to beat a teammate and friend, I'm happy I was able to win it," Binnie said.

The victory gave the six-time Jamaica and Caribbean Champion his second professional title since joining the squash pro tour in 2012.

"I've done a great deal of training, and this win shows that my game is coming along and I am making good strides. Now, I'm looking forward to my next tournaments and taking this momentum into future events," he added.
