First-time Jamaica Scorpions captain, Paul Palmer Jr, has backed himself to come good, despite his poor batting form in the ongoing 2015 WICB First-Class Championship.

The 23-year-old, having made his debut for Jamaica, both as a player and captain two weeks ago away to Barbados Pride, has since failed to get into double figures four times in as many outings.

He made a first ball zero, and took 77 balls to make six runs against the Pride, while at home versus the Windward Islands Volcanoes, managed nought and three.

"I'm disappointed with my form so far. It has been very poor," says Palmer Jr, who led Jamaica to a 30-run win over the Windwards on Sunday.

"It is, however, work in progress for me, and, I am looking forward to brighter days."

Having replaced retired captain Tamar Lambert, Palmer, in trying to assess his form, outlined that the potential newness of his new roles could be reasons for his slow start.

The former two-time winning Jamaica Under-19 captain, prior to making his debut for Jamaica, represented the Combined Campuses and Colleges in two first-class matches.

"It has been a bit rough getting used to the new environment ... having made my debut for Jamaica as captain," he said.

"However, other than my batting, I'm settling in quite fine. It's just for me to make the necessary adjustments in my batting, and improve my statistics."

Palmer Jr, who expressed that it felt good getting his first win as captain, also said he is hoping for better days for the team's overall batting unit.

The Scorpions have scored more than 200 once in four innings, missing out on crucial bonus points, which counts towards the title.

"Winning always helps to build team confidence, and going forward, I think us as batters, will be more confident," Palmer Jr continued.

Jamaica, currently fourth in the six-team championship, are slated to leave today for Port-Of-Spain, where they will tomorrow play Trinidad and Tobago Red Force at Queen's Park Oval.

The Red Force with a win and a draw record, are second behind leaders and title holders Guyana Jaguars, who have so far registered two wins in as many matches.
