Serena Williams wins WTA Player of Year; Venus named Comeback Player

Serena Williams has won the WTA's Player of the Year award for the fourth consecutive year and seventh time overall.

The women's tennis tour announced its annual awards on Tuesday.

Williams was ranked number one throughout 2015 and went 53-3 with a WTA-high five titles, including three at major tournaments: Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. Bidding for the calendar-year Grand Slam, Williams lost to Roberta Vinci in the US Open semifinals.

Her older sister, Venus, was named WTA Comeback Player of the Year.

In other honours voted on by media and fans, Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza were named Doubles Team of the Year and Daria Gavrilova was WTA Newcomer of the Year.
