Gordon blow for Mobay United
Western Bureau:
Montego Bay United FC's chances of topping the 2015-16 Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) received a severe blow on Sunday when their leading scorer, Owayne Gordon, picked up an eye injury.
Gordon, the club's leading scorer, could be out for at least three weeks.
Gordon left the field in the first half of Sunday's Caribbean Club Championships match after he was accidentally poked in the left eye by a Central FC defender.
"We took him to see an ophthalmologist and the diagnosis is that he suffered what they say is a laceration of the eyeball. Meaning that he was scraped in the eye, most likely from a fingernail," the club's chief operating officer, Sandra Christie said.
The injury comes at a most inappropriate time for both player and club.
MBU are currently leading the RSPL with 55 points, one more than Portmore United.
Gordon has been in sensational form scoring seven goals in his last three outings for the club including a hat-trick against Scholars FC of Cayman in last Wednesday's opening Group Three match in the Club Championship. He has scored 13 RSPL goals.
