Edwin, KC lead the way

Defending girls' champions, Edwin Allen High and Kingston College (KC) are the leaders after day three of the ISSA-GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Championships.

On another day of sizzling action Calabar High's Class Two athlete, Christopher Taylor, again stamped his class with a 20.80 seconds record run in the Class Two 200 metres semi-finals.

Taylor's mark lowered the 20.89 set another Calabar athlete, Ramone McKenzie, in 2007. It was his second record of the meet following his 46.33 run in the 400 metres on Tuesday.

"I definitely came out to break the record today and it is a great feeling to know that I will be leaving the meet with two individual records," said Taylor.

Michael Clarke , coach of Taylor, spoke highly of his charge.

"It is just brilliant, magnificent and indeed a great moment for Taylor", said Clarke.

Edwin Allen High look well set to retain their title following three more finals yesterday as the Michael Dyke-coached team ended day three on 47 points. Closing off the top five are, Hydel High 33, Excelsior High 26, Holmwood Technical 24 and St Jago High, 23.

KC, with 37.5 points, continue to lead the boys and they are followed by Jamaica College 27.5 , Petersfield High 27, St Jago 24 and defending champions Calabar, 23

Edwin Allen had two wins out of three girls' finals contested yesterday. Janique Burgher gave them their first win of the day. She cleared an impressive 1.70 metres to capture the Class Three high jump. Shantia Davidson of Hydel,1.65m, was second while Camperdown's Ramona Hylton was third with the same height.

Win number two for Edwin Allen came in the Class Two long jump. Annia Ashley had a winning leap of 5.78m. Holmwood's Susan Francis, 5.64m, and Camperdown's Monief Heslop, 5.60m, were second and third respectively.

The other girls' final went to St Jago's High Dayshanae Hall who took the Class Four long jump with a mark of 5.17m. Paul Ann Chambers of Edwin Allen, 5.14m, was second with third going to Samoya Neil (5.13m) of Excelsior.

In boys' events Herbert Morrison were first and second in the Class Three high jump.

Antonio Hanson and Javeir both cleared the same height with Hanson winning on countback. Calabar's Lamar Reid, the defending champion, was third with 1.75m.

Petersfield High's Sanjae Lawrence topped the Class One discus throw with 53.90m from Excelsior's Phillipe Barnette (53.78m) and Calabar's Warren Barrett Jr, 52.88m.

Daniel Cope gave Petersfield a second win on the day after winning the Class Two shot put with a heave of 16.81m. Cobe Graham of Meadowbrook, 16.22m, was second and Petersfield's Courtney Lawrence, third with a best of 15.62m.
