Fowler-Reid off to good start in ANZ

SUNSHINE Girl ace netball shooter, Jhaniele Fowler Reid and her team southern Steel is off to a fairly good start in the ANZ Netball Championships.

After two rounds of matches the Steel have a win and a draw under their belts.

In their opening game there was a narrow one point win for the Steel as they defeated Mystics 58 to 57 with Fowler-Reid scoring 48 from 56 attempts.

In their second encounter there was a 58-58 tie between Steel and the Tactix as Fowler-Reid improved her scoring with 50 from 56 attempts.

This weekend, the Steel will be going for their second win as they will play the winless Magic in Rotaroa.

Despite losing both matches so far, the Magic, who will be at home, have had the advantage over their opponent in the past as they have won five of the last six encounters between both teams and Fowler-Reid is looking forward to the challenge.

"This weekend's game is going to be really intense because Magic is a really good team and they will be coming at us hard because they are wounded from losing their first two games," said the Jamaican.

"My team is just as strong and hungry for the win so I am confident we will work hard and with that we should get a good result," she added.

Fowler-Reid is pleased with her playing but is concerned about her shooting percentage.

"I feel I am tracking well. However, I need to get my shooting percentage up as I am at 89 per cent," she said.
