Bromfield, James set to battle for 400m gold

Jamaica has never won the women's 400 metres gold at

the IAAF World Under-20 Championships but come tomorrow this could all change as Junelle Bromfield and Tiffany James were in cruise control in winning their in their first round yesterday to advance in style to today's semi-finals.

Both athletes were very confident after winning their respective races yesterday and should even go faster in today's semi-finals.

" I am feeling very comfortable and I decided to sprint the first 70 metres and I felt good but when I reached the 200m mark I felt the pack coming back to me and I just stepped up the pace and pulled away and I am very determined to make up for my disappointment at World Youth last year," Bromfield who won her heat in 53.20 seconds said.

James who pocketed bronze at the World Youth Championships three years ago has been in tremendous form all season and was very upbeat after clocking 52.98 seconds, the fastest on the day

" Although the race was a bit fast I was not concentrating on my time as my objective was to just qualify easily. I am feeling okay and I will just go home get some fluid and some good rest as I am taking it round by round and I want to be on the podium," said James.
