Hector joins Chelsea in training

Reggae Boyz defender Michael Hector should be part of the English Premier League outfit Chelsea as they play a preseason game against Liverpool in Pasadena in the United States today.

The 23-year-old was bought by Chelsea from Reading for PS4,000,000 last season, but he was loan back to Reading last season.

He is set for a playing role in Chelsea's first-team this season, as he is held in high regards by the club's technical director Michael Emenalo.

Hector's versatility could be key as he's able to play as a centre back, full back or defensive midfielder.

During his time at Reading, Hector played as a centre back in most matches, but was eventually pushed up the pitch as the season progressed.

Hector will form part of a Chelsea defensive unit, which comprises of former England captain John Terry, Kurt Zuma, Branislav Ivanovic, Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill.

Chelsea face Real Madrid in Michigan on Saturday.

The Blues endured a miserable campaign last season as their title defence ended in a 10th-placed finish and will be looking to make amends.

New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has warned there is no escape for himself or his players from the expectation to challenge for the Premier League title.

"The targets are the same, to fight to win or to fight to the end to win. It's also important that the fans see our passion," Conte said.

Meanwhile, Hector, who has been a mainstay in the Reggae Boyz team over the past year, last represented Jamaica at the Copa America Championships in the United States in June.
