Wolmer's Boys hit Jose Marti for four

Wolmer's Boys' impressive start to the FLOW-ISSA Manning Cup continued at Heroes Circle yesterday with a convincing 4-0 win over Jose Marti.

Alphonso Gooden (24th and 90th) netted twice for the Walker Cup holders. Rivaldo English opened the scoring after 17 minutes, while Mikhail Graham netted the other goal.

The win gave the Vassell Reynolds-coached school a fourth straight win from as many starts, and they sit atop Group F with maximum 12 points. Camperdown High are second on nine, followed by Dunoon Technical with six, and Kingston Technical, four.

Gooden optimistic

Gooden, who took his tally to four goals for the season, says they are aiming to end their 22-year drought without the coveted Corporate Area title, and he is very optimistic that this will be their year and that he has a very vital role to play.

"My role is very critical as my team look up to me and I have to do what's best and lead from front. The last two games I did not play well to get on the score sheet, but today I did. We have a great chance of winning the Manning Cup this year because we have quality players. As long as we play as a team, we can do it," he added.

In the group's other game, Camperdown beat Kingston Technical 1-0, and Dunoon defeated Edith Dalton James 2-1.

In other results, Kingston College hammered Ascot High 13-1, Denham Town High beat St Mary's College 5-0, Papine turned back Norman Manley 4-1, Haile Selassie stopped Meadowbrook 3-2, Jonathan Grant and St Catherine played to a 1-1 draw, while Ardenne stopped Pembroke Hall 2-0.
