Romelda will be back!

President of Netball Jamaica (NJ) Dr Paula Daley-Morris has reassured netball supporters that goa shooter Romelda Aiken will be back in the Sunshine Girls’ team next year.

Aiken and NJ were embroiled in a war of words after the player failed to make herself available for the Sunshine Girls away series against New Zealand in September.

This led to the lanky player being overlooked by the Sunshine Girls selectors for the Fast 5 World Series in Melbourne, Australia October.       

The 28-year-old Aiken also missed the Sunshine Girls 2-1 series win over rivals England this week, which led to fears that she would not represent Jamaica again.

However, Daley-Morris told STAR Sports that Aiken has given her commitment that she will be available for selection in the future.    

"We don't have any issues with Romelda and so she will be back on court next year," Daley-Morris told STAR Sports following the Sunshine Girls arrival at the Norman Manley International on Wednesday from England.

"She never said she will not play for us," Daley-Morris asserted.

“What she said is that she will not be available for us this year and we accepted her decision.”

Meanwhile, Daley-Morris said that the association had dealt with any issues between itself and Aiken.

“She (Aiken) has said that will be available for us next year.”

Aiken, a former Jamalco player, currently plies her trade in the ANZ Championships in Australia with the Queensland Firebirds.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Girls head coach Minneth Reynolds said despite their series victory, the team still have a lot work to do.

The Sunshine Girls won the final game 64-57 at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday after a win in the opener and loss in the second match.

"We are certainly not going to sit back because this series is part of our development process," Reynolds said.
"We can't beat England and say that is it. (We) have to continue to work on what we did during this series and continue to improve on it," she added.
