Former national captain Simone Forbes said she is very confident that the St Ann Orchids can win this year's Berger Elite League.

The Orchids recorded their fourth win in the competition on Thursday night after an easy 75-29 win over defending champions Clarendon Gaters.

The Janet Guy-coached Orchids have now won four matches while registering one defeat. The Orchids team comprises the likes of national players Shanice Beckford and Adean Thomas along with former national players Kimone Tulloch, Sabrina Spence and Althea Byfield.

The 35-year-old Forbers, who retired from International competition in 2011, said Orchids have been getting better with every game this season, and she is very optimistic that they can go all the way.

"We are very confident and there is no doubt about that," said Forbes.

"It's not going to be easy because there are other good teams in the league and all the teams in the league are very close and so any team can win on any given night," she said.

The Orchids dominated the match from the opening whistle as led 38-16 at half time and 54-23 at the end of the third period. Forbes added that despite being confident, they are not going to take their opponents lightly.

"We want it and so we have to play for it and we are going to do that," Forbes said. "I think tonight's (Thursday) performance was our best so far this season, but I am really looking forward to us getting better.

Continuing Forbes said: "We have committed that this is what we are going to stick until the end of the January and tonight, we recommitted and I think it showed in our performance and i am looking forward to being in the final.

Former national player Sabrina Spence led the way for the Orchids with 62 goals from 71 attempts. The Orchids led 38-16 at half time and 54-23 at the end of the third period.

Spence received support from Forbes, who netted 13 goals from 16 tries. Kayan Cousin topscored for the Gaters with 13 goals from 22 attempts.

Elsewhere, the St Catherine Racers recorded a close 40-35 victory over the Manchester Spurs.

National representative Anna Kay Griffiths topscored for the Racers with 31 goals from 36 attempts while Rebecah Robinson was the main scorer for the Spurs with 29 goals from 33 tries.
