US beat Boyz in lacklustre game

The Jamaica Reggae Boyz turned in a lacklustre performance in last night's friendly against hosts United States inside the Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

A goal in the 58th minute by Jordan Morris was enough to beat a Reggae Boyz team, which saw too little of the ball to put any real pressure on the Americans.

Morris finished off a slick three-man move inside the Jamaican penalty box after collecting a pass from Benny Feilhaber. The winger shooting low and hard under a diving Ryan Thompson in goal for Jamaica. Thompson had replaced starting goalkeeper Andre Blake at the start of the second half.

Boys' Town's prolific striker Shamar Nicholson and Cornwall College schoolboy Jourdaine Fletcher both made their debuts, as they were brought on by Reggae Boyz head coach Theodore 'Tappa' Whitemore in the 82nd minute.

However, they were given too little time to make any real impression.

The Americans had earlier dominated the first-half possession and created numerous clear chances, but their attackers failed to convert them.

The Reggae Boyz were let down by poor passing as the US took full control of midfield and ran rings around their rivals for long periods.

However, the Reggae Boyz did create one clear scoring opportunity in the first period, but former Kingston College star Romario Campbell failed to convert from six yards.

The Reggae Boyz are scheduled to take on Honduras in another friendly match in Houston on February 16.

They are using both games as part of their preparations for the Caribbean Cup finals and CONCACAF Gold Cup later this year.
