New athlete roughed up at Calabar

Former Donald Quarrie track star Jordan Anderson is having a tough initiation at his new school, Calabar High.

Anderson, who switched to the Red Hills Road-based school last September, was, reportedly, beaten up by two of his schoolmates last Thursday.

STAR Sports was told that the 16-year-old was punched in the face several times by two boys who accused him of stealing from them.

The incident has left Anderson with swelling in the face and badly shaken. He has, reports say, stopped training because he will not be eligible to represent Calabar this school year.

When contacted, Calabar's dean of discipline, Canute Fagan, said that he was unaware of the incident and directed STAR Sports to the school's principal Albert Corcho.

However, efforts to contact Corcho proved futile as his secretary said he was not in office yesterday.

Calabar are now in the midst of their preparations as they seek to defend their ISSA-Boys' Championships title next month. The Championships will be held from March 28 April 1.

Anderson won Donald Quarrie's first-ever medal at the championships last year when he captured the Class Three 800m bronze.
