'Class One middle-distance double belongs to me'

Rusea's High middle-distance athlete, Ackeen Colley, is determined to end his Boys' Champs career with a bang by winning the Class One 800 and 1500 metres events.

Colley advanced to the 800m semi-finals after winning his 800m heat on Tuesday and reached the 1500m final after his semi-final heats yesterday. The 18-year-old was a finalist in both events last year.

"I am pretty confident," said Colley. "I know what I am capable of because people have seen my performances throughout the season. Coming into this championships, I am pretty focused, and I am confident also that I will win both of my events."

"My preparations have gone well, and I know what I can do on the big stage, and so I am ready, so just watch out for me" he said.

Second-fastest time

The lanky Colley is the Western Championships record holder in the 1500m with a time, 3:54.04, which is the second-fastest time in the event this year behind Tyrese Reid of Spot Valley.

Colley has recorded the third-fastest time, 1:51.11, in the 800m this year. In this event, he is expected to face stiff competition from Reid and St Jago's Leon Clarke.

Colley said that he is not worried by the competition as he is very focused on the task ahead.

"I don't have any main dangers because I am not focusing on my competitors as I am, big competitor myself," he said.

"I don't think it is going to be difficult to win both events because I have my own technique, my own style, and I know how to win, and that is what I am going out there to do," Colley said.
