Champs 2017 : Foreman soars into the record books

Having won the girls Class Three high jump in record breaking fashion, Excelsior's Shantae Foreman says she is determine more success at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Championships.

Record-breaking mark

The 13-year-old Foreman leapt 1.79m to break the previous mark of 1.78m, which was set by Shiann Foreman in 2014.

The lanky and soft-spoken Foreman achieved her record breaking mark on her second attempt in the event.

"I am very happy with my performance because this is what I came here for and so I did it and I am glad," she said.

"On my second attempt I told myself that I can clear it and I must clear it because I really wanted to break the record and to make my name go down in the book of records," Foreman said.

Daniella Anglin from Herbert Morrison was second in the event with a leap of 1.70m while Foreman's teammate Daniel Hinds was third with mark of 1.70.

Foreman will be aiming for her second gold medal of the championships when she participates in the first round of the Girls Class Three long jump today, where she is the favourite to win the event.
