One rule fits all - Dyke calls for false-start consistency

Michael Dyke, coach of reigning girls’ champions Edwin Allen High, said the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association should consider amending the false-start rule.
Dyke's comments came after his Class Two star, Kevona Davis, false-started in the 100m final on Friday and was thrown out of the event without receiving a discretionary warning from the starter. 
However, Cornwall College's Washington Brown false-started approximately 15 minutes later in the boys' class one 100m final was given a warning by the starter instead of being automatically disqualified.

Dyke told STAR Sports that there should be a level playing field and starters should be consistent in what they are doing.       
"Sometimes you have to be consistent because if you are going to give a warning based on a level of false start, then it should be consistent across the board,” said Dyke.

"I believe that when you are dealing with the youngsters at this age, not that we are trying to encourage people to false start, but sometimes a warming would probably help the situation in a better way,” he said.   

Edwin Allen celebrated their fifth girls’ title in six years at the National Stadium on Saturday.
At the end of the championships, Edwin Allen finished atop the point standings with 304.5 points, 49.5 points ahead of their closest rivals, Hydel High.

They celebrated on their school ground yesterday morning, afterwards parading through the town of Frankfield and on to Chapelton, sharing their victory with communities which have supported them over the years.
