Maneater or Samurai? - DaCosta says it's up to Walker, but Omar points at Wayne

CHAMPION trainer Wayne DaCosta said it is now up to champion jockey Omar Walker to decide who he wants to ride, SHE'S A MANEATER or FEARLESS SAMURAI, in June's 12-furlong Jamaica Derby.

DaCosta and Walker teamed with both horses to capture the 1000 and 2000 Guineas double, both at a mile at Caymanas Park on Saturday.

The filly SHE'S A MANEATER was the most impressive of the two horses as she won in a smart 1:39.0 seconds whereas FEARLESS SAMURIA clocked 1:40.2 to win the 2000 Guineas, which is confined to colts and geldings.

At the end of the 2000 Guineas, DaCosta said Walker will have to make a decision but as long as either horse wins the derby, he would be happy.

"Omar will definitely pick who he wants to ride and then we will scuffle around to see who we can get to ride the other one," said DaCosta.

"It does not really matter which one wins as long as the team wins, or is first or second with any of them, then that would be great," he said.

WORK AS A TEAM

Walker, five-time champion jockey, peeping over his shoulders at the tote board at FEARLESS SAMURIA's time, appeared to lean towards SHE'S A MANEATER for the Jamaica Derby.

"I don't know yet because it is what the trainer says. I have to listen him and take the plan from there. I am not a one-man team. We work as a team," said Walker.

"The filly is a super horse. You can't take that from her. She is a good horse. Let's see how it goes for the future," he said.

DaCosta became the sixth trainer to complete a 1000-2000 Guineas double, joining Paul Newman (1980), Kenneth Mattis (1981), Billy Williams (1991), Philip Feanny (1992 and 1993), and Gary Subratie (2011).

Walker, who experienced Guineas joy in 2014 and 2015, winning the 2000 with TALENTED TONY K and the 1000 aboard PUDDY POOH, respectively, was notching his first double in the season's classic openers.

The Jamaica Derby is set for June 24.
