Nevers changes tune on new coach - will even offer advice

VETERAN netball coach Winston Nevers has changed his tune and is now urging support for newly appointed Jamaica Sunshine Girls head coach, Englishwoman Jermaine Allison-McCracken.
Nevers had previously lashed out at Netball Jamaica for handing the job to unproven McCracken over the more-experienced Connie Francis last month.
Nevers, coach of many-time national champions Jamalco, said Francis had proven herself internationally and should have been given the job ahead of McCracken.
However, he has since had a change of heart, even willing to offer his assistance to McCracken.

“I didn’t support her getting the job because I don’t think that she has the experience, but we have to support her now because we should put away our differences,” he said. 
Nevers, a former specialist coach of the Sunshine Girls, said he is not interested in a coaching position, but is willing to offer advice to McCracken.
“I would not want to take up any responsibility in the national team now, but if she asked me for my advice, I definitely going to support her,” he said, adding that he will be following the progress of the national team closely and, if the Sunshine Girls fail, he will be speaking out.
“If she is not giving us what we are supposed to get, or move the programme to another level, then we are going to criticise because we pay her to do a job for us and she must do it,” he said. 
“I am 60 years now and I would really love to see Jamaica reach number one before I pass away,” he added. 
Allison-McCracken is of Jamaican parentage and has had training in the areas of sports psychology and netball coaching. She also holds a United Kingdom Level 2 coaching certificate.
