No Shelly? No problem, says Forbes

Rising star Sashalee Forbes said that Jamaica can take home gold in the women's 4x100m at next weekend's IAAF/BTC World Relays in The Bahamas even without sprint stars Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Veronica Campbell-Brown.

"I am looking forward to playing my part in helping Jamaica to win the gold in the 4x100m because I also want to represent myself and family well," Forbes told STAR Sports.

The 21-year-old Forbes, who will be competing in her second senior championships, earned a silver medal as a member of Jamaica's 4x100m relay team at last year's Olympic Games in Rio.

Forbes would be competing alongside Olympic sprint double champion Elaine Thompson, Simone Facey, Gayon Evans, Natasha Morrison, and Christania Williams on Jamaica's 4x100m relay team in Nassau, Bahamas.

Jamaica finished second in the sprint relay, behind the United States, at the last championships in 2015.

"It doesn't matter where I run, whether it is in the heats or the final, I am just going to give my best for my country," she said. "We can finish with the gold this year, but we just have to keep our heads together and just go out there and do our best."

Forbes, with a personal best 11.17 seconds in the 100m and 22.72 in the 200m, is the reigning intercollegiate sprint champion.

She said her performance in Rio helped to boost her career.

"It motivates me a lot. I went up against some of the greatest athletes in the world and so whenever I step out on the track I now want to do very well.

"I am overwhelmed with how this has gone so far in my career because I didn't think I would have reached so far," said Forbes.
